Igor Cavalera Leaves Sepultura

Wednesday June 14, 2006
Ten years after his brother Max left the band, drummer Igor Cavalera has departed Sepultura. According to Sepultura's website, he issued a statement saying "I believe my mission in Sepultura has come to an end. I am very proud of all we have done, but nowadays I feel that the band formation no longer lives up to my expectations. Since my last European tour in 2004, I have noticed that my ideas didn’t match with the others."

Cavalera had been on hiatus from the band for several months following the birth of his son. Roy Mayorga filled in on the band's European tour, and Brazillian drummer Jean Dolabella will be filling in on the next tour. In a posting on their site, Sepultura asserts that the band will continue, and that they will comment on the situation in the coming days. Their album Dante XXI was released a couple months ago.

Agreed!! Sepultura was Max and Igor’s band, now that they have left, it’s no longer Sepultura. I can only pray that Igor will join up with Max once again.
