Satyricon - Now, Diabolical Review

Friday June 16, 2006
Black metal is generally one of the most extreme genres of metal, and one of the most difficult for non-metal fans to get into or appreciate. But on their latest album the Norwegian band Satyricon has made black metal that's very accessible. It's dark and melodic, and even the raspy vocals are understandable. There are a lot of mainstream rock influences on this CD, which will turn off a lot of black metal fans that won't find it extreme enough. But on the other hand a lot of non black metal fans will find this music more palatable, and once hearing it might delve further into the genre and discover some of the more extreme and dissonant bands.
