Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos Review

Wednesday June 6, 2007
As someone who is neither a huge DT fan nor a hater, I was pleasantly surprised by the album. It's everything you want and expect from a Dream Theater album. It kicks off with "In The Presence Of Enemies - Part I," and it is nearly five minutes before we hear the first vocals from James LaBrie. It's an effective way to set the tone for the rest of the songs.

One thing you know you're going to get from a Dream Theater CD is epic songs. Systematic Chaos clocks in at nearly an hour and 20 minutes. The shortest song is 5 1/2 minutes long and there are several that are longer than 10 minutes. The styles run the gamut from subdued ballads to complicated and progressive epics to Metallica-esque thrash. Dream Theater's lyrical approach is a little different on this album, with several songs based on fantasy, although there are a few with lyrics based on current and personal events.

This album smokes! Has that heavy edge that Train of Thought has but is done better.

Track # 3 is a killer. The bad sounds really together. At least they key boards are no dominate thisw time around. Seein the on 7/29 is SF. Hoping for the best. Better than Octivaruim. And I agree with the Tran Of Thought comment and that happens to be one of my favorites! Just what are they going to do next? The whole CD is killer!

WHERE IS THE BAND THAT DID IMAGES AND WORDS?!?!
I know that a band usually that good in music gain progress, but not as we saw in sytematic chaos and some songs in octavarium.
Labrie once made a live joke about playing Green Day as Influence, but now it seems they are doing much worse songs.
They used to have rock bands as inluence, but systematic chaos is an album of madness and pure chaos coming from a death or trash band. They were kings of Progressive Music, now they dont deserve it.
By the way, why doese never enough sound like a “MUSE” song such as Hysteria or Stockholm Syndrome!?!?
