At The Gates - Slaughter Of The Soul Review

Monday April 28, 2008
Slaughter Of The Soul is one of those CDs that every metal fan should listen to. At The Gates were one of the groups that helped originated the "Gothenburg Sound" of melodic death metal. The dual guitars of Martin Larsson and Anders Bjorler wove heavy riffs and groovy fills into an extreme but accessible package. There has been a lot of backlash and criticism of this CD over the years, but there's no denying its influence on metal.

The 2008 version of Slaughter Of The Soul includes the original CD plus six bonus tracks. There are a couple demos, an unreleased track, and covers of songs by Slayer, Slaughterlord and No Security. In addition, there's a DVD that includes a 1995 live show filmed in Poland. There's also a 35 minute documentary of the making of this CD, plus other bonus features.
