Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy To Be Released November 23rd

Wednesday October 22, 2008
After years of rumors, leaks and postponements there is finally an official release date for Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy. Best Buy will be the only retail outlet for the CD, which will come out November 23rd. The title track, the first single from the album, was released to radio today, October 22. Chinese Democracy is the first album of new material from Guns N' Roses since the 1991 simultaneous releases of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II.

"The release of Chinese Democracy marks a historic moment in rock n' roll," said co-managers Irving Azoff and Andy Gould. "We're launching with a monumental campaign developed by Gary Arnold and the Best Buy team that matches the groundbreaking sound of the album itself. Guns N' Roses fans have every reason to celebrate, for this is only the beginning."

Chinese Democracy is being released in three formats: CD, Vinyl LP (with a free digital download of the tracks), and as a digital album. Has it been too long, and do fans even care any more about a new Guns N' Roses CD? The first week sales will be huge, but it will be interesting to see if it has some staying power.

Has it been too long? Yes, definitely. The last time these guys released new materials, Metallica was still on the cutting edge.

Do fans still care about GNR? Yes, and that’s why the releasing of a new set of recordings is risky, especially given all the prior hype. I have a special place in my heart for GNR (and any other band that marries the worlds of metal and classic rock), and that’s exactly why it would suck to see Axl put out an album, call it GNR, and try to put together a tour based on it if the album weren’t true to the spirit that we GNR fans first fell in love with.

Welcome to the jungle; it’s gonna bring you down.

I’ve always had a hard time considering it a new GNR album without Slash. It just won’t ever be the same.

That song is terrible.

I don’t really care about the album because everything I’ve heard from leaked demos to these 2 “official” songs that have recently been released have all been crappy to me. I also don’t respect that Axl is essentially putting out a solo album with guest musicians and calling it a GNR album, as if he was the only one in the band who mattered, and HE ALONE makes up GNR. Pfft…I don’t care if he owns the name, he’s a bitch for using it.

I’ll be highly surprised if Chinese Democracy doesn’t suck.
