Lamb Of God - Wrath Review

By , About.com GuideFebruary 27, 2009

Follow me on:

Lamb Of God has become one of the biggest bands in metal today, and Wrath will only propel them higher. They are a well oiled machine at this point with an instantly recognizable sound, and this CD both focuses and expands their musical vision.

Writing great riffs has always been a strength for Lamb Of God, and there's an ample supply here. Willie Adler and Mark Morton also get a chance to solo, but not as often as in the past. The songs on Wrath are punishing and heavy, but also packed with groove and melody.

This review was okay.
Could have been more in-depth.
And there are solos all over the record, as opposed to prior releases.

I have been a fan their entire career and own all their merchandise; whether it is all their cd’s, dvd’s, shirts, etc. I can agree that their first few albums are what brought them on the map. That’s what kickstarted their careers. It’s because of their brutal originality; it’s where they’re at today! When “Sacrament” came out; I was blown away by the difference in the approach and much variation of sound, than their previous records. The entire album hit’s hard! Many fans really liked it, while some fan’s, always have to be a critique and ruin it for the rest of us loyal L.O.G. fans, and whine like little babies that need their diaper changed. Come on people; if you don’t like the band, the genre, the sound…don’t listen to it, don’t compare them to other bands, such as Slipknot (since there is NO comparison!!!), and don’t write a bad review so us real fans have to waste our times reading the trash! “Wrath” actually let me down though. Don’t get me wrong…They all did an awesome job on the album! The production is great and I am excited they found a new producer, other than “Machine” but it just sounded like they rushed the album. I don’t think they spent as much time on this album, as their previous releases. I really am excited to hear something NEW though! It’s been since 06′ since they released “Sacrament”! Hey; I’m not one to complain…the album is phenomenal….Overall; I would highly recommend ANY Metal fan to go out and purchase “Wrath” in stores NOW!!! It’s well worth the money!

When I first heard this album I thought to myself “okay, its another Lamb of God album” I liked it but it didn’t wow me. Then it grew on me, now I can’t stop listening to it! They probably could have done better on this album, but we have to remember its hard to follow an album like Sacrament. There are a lot of reviews out there that say things like LOG hasn’t progressed at all and that this album is full of just some catchy riffs and thats it. The reviewers simply need to listen to this album more, once it grows on you there’s no stopping it. I like this review at least this guy isn’t snooty about metal, I hate snooty metalheads. This is an absolutely awesome album. and trust me go see them live all of their songs kick 100% more in concert, I don’t know how to explain it but they wield some amazing power in concert. GO SEE THEM!!!
