Queensryche - American Soldier Review

Musically, American Soldier is typical Queensryche. It's progressive, but also accessible. The band's sound has matured over the years, becoming a little less intense. Horns and keyboards add depth and texture to the songs.

Songs like the opening track "Silver" are punchy and focused, while tracks such as "Middle Of Hell" are more progressive with lengthy instrumental sections. The songs with the most emotional impact are the ones where the soldiers' voices are used to tell their stories, such as "If I Were King."

What an amazing show. I have seen Queensryche 5 or 6 times, and they continue to get better with age. As does American Soldier. If your not a big fan after the first spin, read the lyrics then spin it again. Imagine Geoff singing the male voice in Home Again, and his 10 year old daughter singing the female voice. Granted the context of the song is much different from his artist/daughter relationship, but what a powerful and moving song! Its also exactly the way they play it live as well – proud daddy walking hand in hand with the sweet girl that’s on the CD. Beyond American Soldier are about half the songs off of Rage and all but one from Empire. Critics say what they may, but the boys still have it. I just wish there was another show here tomorrow!
