Best Heavy Metal Albums Of 1987

Wednesday August 12, 2009
After 1986 any year would be a letdown, but 1987 was pretty strong in its own right. Once again it was a great mix of genres, with thrash bands like Anthrax and Testament, more extreme groups such as Death and Napalm Death, and other bands that encompassed doom, death and black metal. Here are my selections for the best heavy metal albums of 1987. And as always, if you disagree or have your own best of list, please post it in the comments section below.

I give your list a 7/10 ration. Personnally, I would leave GNR, Voivod and Napalm Death out of my top 10, and add Exodus, Overkill and Sanctuary for that year.

1987 seems weak because of the inclusion of Testament, Voivod, Napalm Death. Missing are Whitesnake: Whitesnake, Dokken: Back for the Attack, Death Angel: The Ultra Violence, Def Leppard: Hysteria, Manowar: Fighting the World, Lizzy Borden: Visual Lies, Exodus: Pleasure of the Flesh, Overkill: Taking Over, Motley Crue: Girls, Girls, Girls. Sanctuary actually came out in 1988 and their debut wasn’t nearly as good as the 1990 followup. The Dark was 1986 for Metal Church, it would make top 20 of 1986 for me.
