Best Heavy Metal Albums Of 1989
Wednesday August 26, 2009
This was the most difficult list to compile for the '80s. Nothing stood out far above the rest of the pack as in many previous years, but there were some really strong releases. The top 10 has a wide variety of artists. There are extreme groups like Morbid Angel and Sepultura alongside commercial bands like Skid Row and Badlands.

I would have added Alice Cooper’s “Trash” and Faith No More’s “The Real Thing.” Still, it’s a great list.
I think you left out the could-be Top 3:
Dream Theater – When Dream And Day Unite Savatage – Gutter Ballet,
Sanctuary – Into The Mirror Black
All three are considered to be some of the finest metal ever written by a large fraction.
Fates Warning/Metal Church (with newly added key-members) probably would’ve made my list.
Next to Morbid Angel, the releases by Carcass, Obituary and Pestilence helped kick start the most important death metal wave (1989-1993)
Some other excellent (and true 80s) offerings include the albums by Kreator, Helstar and Watchtower.
lets just say my husband got me into metal at a young age. For me metal is blues taking to a dif level the great god fathers of metal it started with sabbath next slayer next pantera today lamb of god. ballad rock is testament and lets get something straight.theres few and far between that keep it pure metal.
