5 Questions with Drunken Bastards

5 Questions With... is a chance to get to know an up and coming band you may not be familiar with.  Drünken Bastards is a metal band from Hungary.  Vocalist Blizz introduces us to his band, who just released the CD Horns Of The Wasted.

Give us a brief history of Drünken Bastards.
I started Drünken Bastards in 2004 with my friend Pete Fire. Our goal was to play old-school punk influenced metal without compromises. We had many ideas but the first full-length, called Posercrusher in 2006 was the first release of the Hungarian old-school metal label Metal Ör Die Records. In 2007 we played our first live show to support the Japanese kamikaze metal/punk band Barbatos. In the same year a limited live split CD was released as a tribute to our first show together. In 2009 we took part in the second Fantomania split series with a brand new lineup (again, only Pete and I remained in the band).

After the recording of Fantomania, we decided to work with a new lineup, because of the musical differences with the previous one. Luckily by the second half of 2009 we found the right members with serious attitudes, among them legendary bionic drummer D-beat Hasselhoff, who is a frequent collaborator with noise legend Merzbow and other radical extreme music acts. On second guitar Infernal Pangasius took over, not to mention Evil Skeletonizer who kicks ass with the bass lines.

With this lineup we played our first show with Municipal Waste later to be released as a split CD with Mexican thrash n' roll bandits Rötten. Many shows followed, along with a Hungarian tour with Morbosidad. The mentioned split CD with Rötten was our last release on Metal Ör Die Records. In the meantime we have recorded the second full-length album Horns Of The Wasted and signed to the US based label Hells Headbangers Records.

How would you describe the sound of your CD Horns Of The Wasted?
Horns Of The Wasted's sound is violent, raw, fast and heavy as a nuclear warhead. But it's better if you listen to it and hear it for yourselves.

How is guitarist Pete Fire's health?
As we posted it in our official statement, Pete has been diagnosed with cancer, exactly with lymphoma. The hospital treatments have already started, but the whole procedure could take up to 6 months. It means we had to cancel all of our shows for 2010, but we won't stop working and together we decided to write our third upcoming album in this period. So far we have around 10 new songs and we have an idea for the whole concept as well. Of course we will try to make up for all the canceled shows in the spring after Pete gets better. On the other hand he is getting better day by day, so again we truly hope his treatments will be done sooner than the doctors expect.

What's the metal scene like in Hungary?
In one word: sh*%y! Full of idiots and crappy bands. Luckily we have some cool formations here, but I really don't care about the Hungarian scene.

Anything else you'd like to mention/plug/promote?
Well, as I mentioned above we are working hard on our third album. We would like to finish writing the songs until Pete is ready to leave the hospital and start the recordings at the end of this year or in the first months of next year. We are also planning on making brand new merch with t-shirts, posters etc. to support the promotion of the new album.
