5 Questions With Christian Mistress

5 Questions With... is a chance to get to know an up and coming band you may not be familiar with. Christian Mistress hails from Olympia,Washington and just released their debut full-length CD Agony & Opium. Vocalist Christine Davis introduces us to her band.

Give us a brief history of Christian Mistress.
Oscar and Ryan had been playing guitar together for a few years already when I met them at a show my previous band Buried Blood played in Olympia. Not long after that I moved to Olympia and Buried Blood broke up. Oscar approached me about singing for a band that he and Ryan were starting that did not yet have a drummer or bassist. I tried to work on their songs, but wasn't in the right mental space to give the songs what they deserved, so I backed out. Fast forward a few months to Oscar and Ryan jamming out some songs with Reuben Storey (who I had always wanted to play music with) and Jonny Wulf joining on bass shortly after that. At that time, I was working with Jonny and he told me about his new band. I said, hey maybe I'll come sing for you guys....Christian Mistress lives strong.

How would you describe the sound of Agony and Opium?
Blazing.

What inspired your lyrics?
Tragic mistakes, no regrets, survival, deserts, lust, decay, and of course the guitar riffs themselves.

Have you been in contact with Fenriz from Darkthrone, who is apparently a fan of yours?
Reuben and Fenriz have exchanged letters. I would love to meet him some day, he seems like a blast.

Anything else you'd like to mention?
I believe that we wouldn't be the band that we are in a bigger city. In Olympia, we are able to focus on our own style of heavy metal and put a lot of energy into the songwriting that might otherwise dissipate into other distractions. That said, I am stoked to get out of town for a while and tour the U.S. this October!
