5 Questions With... is your chance to get to know a new or up-and-coming band. Voices Of Extreme (VOX) are a New York based band who recently released their sophomore CD Break The Silence. They are also co-managed by Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain. Vocalist Don Chaffin introduces us to his band.
Give us a brief history of Voices of Extreme.
VOX is heavily influenced by Alice in Chains, PowerMan 5000, Soundgarden and Disturbed. The band was formed in 2004 and originally had Nicko McBrain as co-manager and mentor. This was coupled with the fact that Dan Spitz, formerly of Anthrax produced most of the debut CD. After sharing stages with Godsmack, Alice in Chains and other well famed bands, we went on hiatus for a few years until the decision to regroup and produce this new album.
At this point, VOX has added new members Rob Katrikh and John Cappadona to the roster, making us a 5 piece band instead of the original 4 piece, which has allowed for a bigger live sound. VOX is happy to be back on the circuit and looking forward to seeing all of our friends again on the road.
How would you describe the sound of Break The Silence?
An alternative rock sound with a little more progressive and modern edge than the first album.
What has been your most memorable VOX live show?
Opening for Godsmack at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.
What are your upcoming tour plans?
To hopefully start in Europe late 2011 or early 2012.
