5 Questions With... is your chance to get to know a new or up-and-coming metal band. Skeletal Remains are a death metal group from California whose debut album is Beyond The Flesh. Bassist Adrius Marquez introduces us to his band.
Give us a brief history of Skeletal Remains.
Skeletal Remains came out of nowhere. It was nothing more than an idea and a side project our friend Mike (original guitarist) had come up with. We had no idea it would go this far so quickly. The people's reaction to the music was astonishing. Around June of 2011, the band went to a studio to record a four track demo, three originals and a cover. Throughout the recording process, Mike decided to part ways with the band due to personal reasons. The recording were completed with Chris Monroy and Christian Reyes.
Shortly after the demo was done, me and Adrian Obergon came in on bass and guitar duties. It was then that we decided to change the band name from Anthropophogy to Skeletal Remains. From there on it was shows after shows almost every weekend. A few months later we decided it was time to put out another demo with the new lineup. During the recording process, we received an email for Rico from FDA Rekotz, asking us if he can release the first demo on tape.
We all agreed to it, shortly after we had the idea of releasing a full length with FDA. We already had five new originals, we re-recorded the first three tracks from the demo and added another cover for the album. Beyond The Flesh was in full effect and was unleashed November 9th via FDA Rekotz on CD, vinyl, and digital download.
Describe the style/sound of Beyond The Flesh.
Old school to the its core! Non-stop, in your face death metal, and that's exactly what we were shooting for when this band was formed. Every song tells its story, from life ending diseases to hyperthermia. It's an album that fans of old school death metal, young and old, will enjoy.
What has the early response been like to the album?
All the reviews we have seen so far are all positive, and it's awesome! We hope all you death metallers out there like it!
What has been your most memorable Skeletal Remains live show, and do you have any upcoming show/tour plans?
Our first show was probably the most memorable. It was our debut as Skeletal Remains, and most of the people there had no idea who we were. But at the end of the set they all lost their minds as if we were a well known band. We try our best to treat every show the same. We always walk away knowing that we set the bar high for the other bands that go on after us (even if that's not the case).
As for touring, there hasn't been much talk. It's up in the air. We will get into that more later. Right now we're focusing on releasing this album. But hopefully we will be on the road sometime soon!
Anything else you'd like to mention or promote?
We hope you guys enjoy the album and we're looking forward to seeing all of you in the road! CHEERS!
