Upon initial reflection, 2012 was a really good year for heavy metal. It's easier to judge once a few years have passed, but I was really impressed with the large number of quality releases this year. Selecting the year's best albums is always a difficult process, and this year an album released way back in February tops our annual list. Being a debut album made the feat that much more impressive.
