5 Questions With... is your chance to get to know a new or up-and-coming band. Picture Me Broken hail from California and recently released the EP Mannequins. Their full-length debut is slated for a 2013 release. Vocalist Brooklyn Allman (daughter of Greg Allman) introduces us to her band.
Give us a brief history of Picture Me Broken.
I met the first lineup of my band on the playground in 2005 when we were all 12 years old. We played cover songs and booked church festivals. When I decided it was to be my career and I fell in love with the feeling of singing rock music and playing live, the project evolved. We changed the name, began writing our own music and the lineup changed several times over the years as I strived to find the most serious, passionate musicians who loved this as much as I did.
Describe the style/sound of Mannequins.
We wanted to play high energy rock music that deviated from any type of scene. I think we're a mix of a lot of rock sub genres combined.
What has been your most memorable PMB live show, and what are your upcoming show/tour plans?
I think there are at least one or two magical shows that stand out every tour, I couldn't select just one but it's always the shows where people genuinely love what you do rather than getting in front of a crowd of strangers and having the task of winning them over. We'll be on the road quite a bit in 2013, touring is still sort of a recent thing for us because I was in high school for the bulk of my music career thus far.
What's the best advice your dad gave you about succeeding in the music business?
He's always told me not to take any s--t from anyone. It really is the best advice there is.
Anything else you'd like to mention or promote?
Our brand new EP Mannequins is up on iTunes now and I urge you all to support not only this EP by purchasing it, but any other up and coming rock band that you support because we all need our fans to be there for us when releasing new music so we have a shot!
