The book combines interviews with the band (except for Axl Rose, whose words are taken from record company press releases from that era), interviews with those near GNR, and hundreds of great photos. Tons of live shows are documented with photos, setlists and transcripts of the band's between songs comments. It chronicles the earliest days of Guns 'N Roses and how they ended up with their classic lineup through the release of Appetite For Destruction. There's also a companion website where those audio and video clips can be accessed, along with other interviews and content not in the book.
Reckless Road: Guns 'N Roses and the Making of Appetite For Destruction is a compelling behind the scenes glimpse of one of the great bands of all time. Seeing the evolution from being a band playing a lot of covers to introducing original songs to getting a record deal to hitting the big time is very interesting. The only negative is the numerous typos throughout the book. Everything else is put together meticulously, and it's a shame there are so many spelling errors. Still, this is a must own book for Guns 'N Roses fans and makes an excellent companion to Slash's recent autobiography.
