Corpus Christi - A Feast For Crows

Victory Records
After replacing 80 percent of their members, Corpus Christi returns with a renewed focus and refined sound on their second CD A Feast For Crows. Their songwriting has improved by leaps and bounds, with their style of metalcore becoming much less generic than their debut.

You'll still hear a plethora of breakdowns and alternating screaming/singing vocals that are typical for the genre, but the songs have excellent riffs and much more dynamics and variety this time around. After an opening interlude, things heat up in a hurry with “A Portrait Of Modern Greed,” that packs a punch while showcasing melodies as well.

“Little Miss Let You Know” is one of the best tracks on the album, injecting some southern flair and a catchy chorus along with a nice groove. The instrumental “Windwalker” provides a couple minutes of mellowness before “Broken Man” brings back the intensity with thrashy guitars and the requisite breakdowns.

“(Seeing You Again) For The First Time” is another song that shows the band's versatility. There's an almost industrial vibe to the track that's mostly a ballad, but has a few more intense moments as well. Corpus Christi has taken a step forward with A Feast For Crows, and if they continue their musical progression and develop an even more defined signature sound, they will really stand out from the legion of metalcore bands.

(released July 6, 2010 on Victory Records)
