CKY shows no signs of rust, and Carver City is a collection of songs that are both heavy and catchy. Hard rock, metal, classic rock, prog, new wave and a few other genres are blended together to create the band's. They've gotten more melodic over the years, which always seems to turn off a portion of a band's fan base, but also helps attract a new audience.
Carver City has quite a bit of variety. "Woe Is Me" has some heavy riffs and even some brief screaming vocals, but is also really catchy with a retro vibe. Songs like "#1 Roller Rager" mix crunchy guitars and old school Moog synthesizers and are very accessible.
"Plagued By Images" also has a strong keyboard presence and proggy influences. The album wraps up with the ballad "The Era Of An End," which is an interesting song, although a mellow way to finish things off. CKY seems to be maturing (at least musically), but still have some fire in their bellies.
