Angra - Aurora ConsurgensSPV Records
Even though Angra has been around since 1992, the Brazilian band isn't that familiar to North American audiences. They are very popular in South America and do well in Europe and perhaps this will be the album that garners them some attention here.

Aurora Consurgens is power metal with some progressive influences. The songs are very melodic with big hooks and choruses. The progressive influence comes with the complexity of the songs and the lengthy instrumental breaks.

Although it isn't a concept album per se, the lyrics address various mental issues including suicide, schizophrenia and manic depression. Vocalist Edu Falaschi has an excellent voice and sings with both power and emotion. There are also some nice harmonies in the background vocals. Power metal fans will dig this CD.
