This is the debut release from the Welsh quartet Anterior. The band plays a blend of thrash, metalcore and progressive metal with some death metal influences.
This Age Of Silence is a good first album with a lot of positive aspects and only a few areas that need improvement. The best thing about the CD is the guitar work. Leon Kemp and Luke Davies play blazing fast thrash riffs and solos and really showcase their playing on some of the more progressive influenced tracks.
Davies is also Anterior's vocalist, and he alternates between aggressive thrash style shouting/singing and melodic singing. He does a solid job but is sometimes overshadowed by the guitars. The songs are very well composed with a lot of diversity and dynamics, but could use a few more hooks to make things even more memorable. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Anterior, as they are a band with a lot of potential.
