Atrocity - ContaminatedOpen Grave Records
After disbanding back in 1993, Atrocity has reunited. In anticipation of a new CD, they have released an EP of alternate versions of songs recorded during the sessions for their debut album back in 1990. This is the U.S. band Atrocity that formed in the mid '80s, not the German band of the same name. They released three albums in the early '90s before breaking up.

The songs on Contaminated are short, fast and intense. Atrocity's sound is death metal with some grindcore mixed in. Some songs will be devastating death metal, then will slow down into a great groove with a cool guitar solo, and then rocket the tempo back up to full force again. They show enough versatility that these crushing songs hold up well with repeated listens. It will be interesting to see what the 2007 version of the band sounds like, but the 1990 version was excellent.
