Benea Reach has three guitarists, but the album is not a shredfest. The guitar sound is dense, thick and ominous. The band displays good musicianship and puts together complex and intricate songs, but they could use a few more memorable hooks. The vocals are a combination of death metal growls and hardcore screams, which are emotional and reasonably diverse.
This CD is a slow build. The first time through it's okay, but nothing spectacular. The songs start to grow on you after multiple listens. The complexity and subtleties take a while to sink in, so give it a few listens before you make a final judgment.
