Mondo Musicale crams 25 songs into just over 30 minutes. They are short and bludgeoning, but surprisingly catchy. Furious drums and shredding guitars abound, but Birdflesh injects groove and melody into the mix. When it comes to grindcore, diversity can be difficult, but they manage to do it by varying tempos and styles and using some instruments and samples you might not expect.
Birdflesh is also a band with a sense of humor, which is where the "goofy" description comes from. There are some funny lyrics and song titles such as "Handicapitation" and "Moonwalk Massacre." They also have bass, drum and guitar solo songs that clock in at around 30 seconds. Not quite what you'll get at a Van Halen concert, but amusing nonetheless. Being amusing is great, but you need the musical chops to hold the interest of the listeners, and Birdflesh have no problem doing both.
