This the second CD for the southern metal supergroup Birds Of Prey, whose members include guitarist/drummer Erik Larson (Alabama Thunderpussy), guitarist Bo Leslie (The Last Van Zant), bassist Summer Welch (Baroness) and vocalist Ben Hogg (Beaten Back To Pure).
If you're looking for highbrow music and deep, meaningful lyrics, Sulfur And Semen is not the place to go. The songs are a nice mix of faster death-n-roll with punk influences and more moderately paced doom/sludge. Monstrous riffs and down-tuned shredding propel the thick slabs of oppressively heavy music.
Hogg's vocals are razor blade gargling screams, angry and buried deep in the mix. The lyrics range from humorous to juvenile to downright vile. Birds Of Prey are a talented crew, and Sulfur And Semen is a solid effort.
