The best way to describe Quiet Earth is "heavy" and "groovy." Well, it might not be the best way, but it is an accurate way. It blends elements of doom, sludge, thrash, stoner and traditional metal.
The songs are thick, with riffs you have to cut with a knife. Bison B.C. also adds thrashy parts to the doom, making them really catchy. There are long instrumental sections where the full force of the band is evident, shifting from mainstream metal to groovy thrash to oppressive doom all in the matter of a couple of minutes.
There's a definite retro feel to some of the songs, but others are very contemporary. There are a few lulls and some songs that could be a bit shorter, but Quiet Earth is a surprisingly good CD from a relatively unknown Canadian band that shouldn't be unknown for much longer.
