The Machinations Of Dementia is a powerful, skilled and eclectic dose of instrumental metal. Jarzombek is the star of the show as he displays a nearly unlimited reservoir of riffs, styles and techniques along with a plethora of solos. Webster also really gets to show off his chops on bass, and he is an extremely talented player. Zeleny is rock solid and keeps everything right on track.
The songs on the album range from technical metal with numerous tempo and time signature changes to slower songs with a doomy vibe to songs that have thrashy grooves. To hold a listener's attention for an hour is a real trick for an instrumental group, but Blotted Science manages to do it. It's a challenging album for both the musicians and the listeners, but it's worth the effort.
