Botch - We Are The Romans

Hydra Head Records
Originally released in 2000, We Are The Romans is an extremely influential album. Botch broke up back in 2002 and only released two full-length original albums along with several singles, splits and collections. They were pioneers in the metalcore/mathcore genre and countless bands have followed in their footsteps. Members of Botch went on to join groups including Minus The Bear, These Arms Are Snakes and Roy.

This re-release is a 2 CD collection. The first disc is the original album, but remastered. The second disc consists of live tracks along with in the studio demo versions of most of the songs.

Botch's style was complex and technical, garnering them the "mathcore" label. Their musicianship was outstanding (especially the guitar work) and the songs not only technically excellent, but also very catchy and memorable. This was also a band with a sense of humor, hence song titles like "C. Thomas Howell As The Soul Man" and "I Wanna Be A Sex Symbol On My Own Terms."

Botch was not just another metalcore band, and We Are The Romans is a flawless crafted album that sounds just as good now as it did back in 2000, and if you're a fan of metalcore, mathcore or heavy music in general you should own this CD.
