This is the full-length debut from Richmond, Virginia's Cassius. They show a lot of diversity in style and technique on I Am Jim Jones. There's everything from acoustic interludes to intense midtempo songs to fast and technical tracks.
Cassius blends metalcore with thrash, noise and death metal. The songs are densely layered with crisp guitar tones and catchy Meshuggah style riffs. They speed up, slow down, change keys, go from melodic to dissonant to melodic again and generally keep things interesting.
Myke Terry's vocals are mainly screamo style shrieking, but he does throw in some death metal growls on a couple songs which are a nice change of pace. This is a very promising debut CD with a lot to offer.
