Catamenia - Eternal Winter's ProphecyLocomotive Records
This is a re-release of the Finnish band's 2000 CD. Catamenia is a black metal band, but there are other influences on Eternal Winter's Prophecy. In addition to the cold and bleak black metal, there are also symphonic keyboards that add a bit of warmth and melody to the mix. The guitar riffs are also very catchy.

In addition to the melody there are plenty of brutal blast beats and harsh black metal vocals. The song arrangements are excellent, and although they aren't overly long still manage to work in many different elements. From classically influenced atmosphere to raw and intense guitar, Catamenia skillfully balance the darkness and light. This was their third full-length release, and since then they have gotten even better, but it's good that North American audiences now will have easier access to their earlier material.
