Catastrophic - Pathology Of Murder

Napalm Records
It's been 7 years since Catastrophic released their debut. They put out an EP in 2005, and have finally completed their second full-length. The current lineup includes vocalist Keith Devito (Pyrexia), guitarists Trevor Peres (Obituary) and Brian Hobbie (Pyrexia), bassist Joe Concotta and drummer Rob Maresca (Pyrexia).

Pathology Of Murder is death metal with some thrash influences. It's heavy and brutal, but with some clever and catchy guitar riffs. The songs are pretty standard death metal fare with not a huge amount of originality. Still, Catastrophic comes through on several excellent tracks such as "Problem, Reaction, Solution."

Devito's death metal style vocals are powerful, and he alternates between a higher pitched roar and a lower pitched growl. Pathology Of Murder isn't a groundbreaking release, but it is solid, enjoyable death metal.

(released January 29, 2008 on Napalm Records)
