Cavity - Laid Insignificant

Hydra Head Records
Cavity were a sludge metal band from Miami. They formed in 1992, released a couple EPs and a few full-lengths and broke up in 2003. Laid Insignificant was originally released in 1998.

They never made it out of the underground, but Cavity's back catalog is definitely worth revisiting. Laid Insignificant was one of their most intense efforts. It's an 8 song EP clocking in at 28 minutes of fierce riffs, distortion, fuzz and feedback. The songs are pretty fast for the genre, and are punishing slabs of sludge. Even with all the feedback and distortion you can find some tasty riffs.

Rene Barge was Cavity's vocalist, and he delivers fierce, emotional and sometimes frenzied vocals. Cavity's sound was not for everyone, but they had a rabid fan base, and Laid Insignificant shows why they instilled such passion in people.
