Even though Circus Diablo is a new band, their members have been around the block. It features vocalist Billy Morrison (The Cult, Camp Freddy), guitarists Billy Duffy (The Cult) and Ricky Warwick (The Almighty), bassist Brett Scallions (Fuel) and drummer Matt Sorum (Guns 'N Roses, Velvet Revolver). Sorum was a studio member only, and Charles Ruggiero (Slunt) will be the band's live drummer, including their stint at Ozzfest this summer.
Circus Diablo is a blast of straightforward, very well played hard rock/metal. The songs are really catchy with some memorable hooks and choruses. Even though they are melodic, there's still a dark edge to Circus Diablo's music. It's also a diverse effort, with a variety of styles and emotions, including both intense rockers and softer ballads.
The dual guitar attack of Duffy and Warwick provides some blistering solos and excellent riffs. Morrison's voice is good, and has a slight rasp to it that makes it stand out. Circus Diablo hasn't broken any new ground here, but their sound and style is still a very enjoyable listen.
