When you hear the term "avant-garde" used to describe a band, you expect to hear things that are unusual, experimental and downright strange. That's exactly what you get from Supervillain Outcast. There are plenty of traditional black metal elements, but DHG veers away from the norm with some really unique rhythms, samples and synths that make some songs almost danceable, but still ominous and dark sounding.
DHG has made an album with a lot of variety. They use several different guitar tones, tons of different keyboard sounds, and various vocal styles ranging from black metal rasps to more understandable spoken word type vocals to melodic choral singing. Some songs have a black metal vibe, others an industrial vibe, others a death metal vibe and others you're not sure what kind of vibe it is. DHG has a unique and interesting sound and Supervillain Outcast is an unusual and compelling album.
