Dignity - Project Destiny

Napalm Records
Dignity was formed a couple years back by keyboardist Frank Pitters and former Edenbridge drummer Roland Navratil. The band was filled out with guitarist Martin Mayr, vocalist Jake E., and the man with a great metal name, and one that always makes me chuckle, bassist John Boy Bastard.

Project Destiny is melodic metal with power and symphonic metal influences. The songs are big and bombastic, packed with melodies and hooks. Keyboards add atmosphere, with mixed effects. Sometimes the synths blend in nicely, other times they are a bit intrusive. There are even some middle Eastern sounds on "The Edge Of The Blade."

Very accessible and radio-friendly, Project Destiny has some standout songs, and a couple that don't quite hit the mark. Vocalist Jake E. does an excellent job. He has a crystal clear tone, and is able to hit the high notes when necessary.

Dignity closes out the album with a decent cover of "Don't Pay The Ferryman," which was a minor pop hit in the '80s. It's a pretty straightforward and slightly corny rendition of the song, with a few more guitars added in. That actually sums up Project Destiny for me. It's a bit cheesy, but in the end I enjoyed it.
