Distorted - Voice From Within

Candlelight Records
Distorted is a band from Bat-Yam, Israel. They traveled to Sweden to record their second CD at Studio Underground with producer Pelle Seather (Draconian, Madder Mortem, Carnal Forge). They also recruited several guest musicians including vocalists Thomas Vikstrom from Therion, Lisa Johansson from Draconian and Svencho from Aborted.

Voice From Within combines traditional metal with gothic, progressive and death elements. The songs are dark and melodic with a lot of dynamics. Distorted is a versatile band that can go from mellow acoustic songs to bombastic and extreme tracks.

The band has dual vocalists. Miri is the main singer, and she has an excellent voice that is pure and powerful. There's also a male vocalist who does death metal growls. The growls are a bit overused. The best song on Voice From Within is "A Soft Whisper." It starts quietly, and then slowly builds into a very intense and memorable song. Miri is front and center, and there are only brief death metal growls used as background toward the end of the song. Less is sometimes more, and fewer death metal growls and more melodic singing would showcase the band's strongest aspects.
