The second part of Dominici's O3 trilogy opens with an 8 minute instrumental. It's pretty standard for a progressive album to start with an intro, but beginning with such a long instrumental is an interesting choice. It works, establishing the band's style and displaying their musicianship before kicking off the album's concept and story.
Dominici are a melodic progressive metal band led by onetime Dream Theater vocalist Charlie Dominici. O3 A Trilogy: Part 2 has all the elements a good prog metal album needs: an interesting story, well written and catchy songs and excellent vocals. Charlie Dominici has been around for a long time (old timers might even remember him from Franke And The Knockouts), but his voice is still strong and clear and he hits all the notes.
This is a very well rounded effort. The music is very dynamic, ranging from quiet and introspective acoustic to majestic, dark and heavy. Prog metal fans will definitely want to check this one out.
