The contrast between the two CDs is quite substantial. The band's sound has changed a lot over the years. Her Von Welken Nachten is symphonic black metal with gothic and progressive influences. (Their newer stuff is more ambient and mellow). Dornenreich has quite a bit of diversity on this CD. Some songs are intense, with guitars in the forefront and keyboards providing a dark atmosphere. There are also some mellower, acoustic based tracks which are more experimental sounding.
The vocals on Her Von Welken Nachten range from baritone melodic singing to harsh growls to quiet whispers. The lyrics are in German, so I'm not sure what the songs are about. There is some good stuff on here, especially the faster and more intense songs, but it's a bit uneven.
