Draconian - Turning Season Within

Napalm Records
Harsh male vocals and ethereal female vocals with gothic music is something that has become commonplace the past few years. It takes more than that to set yourselves apart, and the Swedish band Draconian realizes that.

Their latest release is Turning Season Within, which has the traditional gothic elements, but also a lot more. Draconian utilizes elements of doom, symphonic and even death metal to spice things up. The songs are dark and melodic with a symphonic atmosphere. Some are slow, thick and doomy while others are lighter with a gothic vibe.

Anders Jacobsson's harsh growls contrast nicely with the melodic tones of Lisa Johansson. She utilizes everything from a soft alto to a powerful operatic soprano. The lyrical content has to do mostly with failed love and relationships, which fits in well with this style of music. Turning Season Within is a dynamic and diverse gothic doom metal CD.
