Ektomorf - Outcast

About.com Rating two out of Five

Ektomorf - OutcastNuclear Blast Records
The Hungarian band Ektomorf has been around for over a decade and this is their seventh album. The band recruited highly acclaimed producer Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Himsa, Poisonblack)for their latest release. The production is flawless, and the band is technically skilled, but Outcast falls flat.

"Who Can I Trust" is the strongest song on the album. Ektomorf incorporates native instruments with metal for a very unique sound. There are a few smatterings of those instruments on other songs, but for the most part their blend of thrash, hardcore and punk sounds exactly like Sepultura and Soulfly.

Most of the songs on this CD are stale and predictable, musically sound but completely unmemorable. I think if they amped up the folk elements and toned down the Sepultura imitation Ektomorf would be more successful.
