Bands with names such as Cattle Decapitation and Carcass would probably laugh at the not so metal moniker of Fairyland, and it's not likely to be seen on a whole lot of tee shirts at the next Ozzfest. But regardless of their name, the French band's latest release is a well produced slice of symphonic power metal.
The Fall Of An Empire is filled with epic compositions, some over 10 minutes long. They combine soaring power metal guitars with a lot of progressive elements and plenty of symphonic strings and keyboards.
It's an impressive album vocally. New lead singer Max Leclerqc has a versatile voice with a lot of range and the necessary chops to hit the high notes required in power metal. There are also many complex and layered harmonies which sound really good. If you're a fan of groups like Rhapsody, Symphony X and Blind Guardian you should enjoy Fairyland's style.
