Farsot - IIII

Prophecy North America
Most black metal band members adopt monikers instead of using their real names, and they are generally dark and evil aliases. Farsot takes a different approach. The German band's members use bizarre pseudonyms such as 3818.w and 10.XIXt. From looking at the album title you'd figure it's their fourth release. It's actually their debut.

IIII is black metal with an avant garde twist. The songs are fast and aggressive and have the typical black metal blast beats and guitar style. However, Farsot incorporates long instrumental sections, atmospheric parts and other experimental elements to make for a more unique listening experience.

Farsot uses quite a few different vocal styles as well. From traditional black metal rasps to tortured screams to lower pitched growls and even a few female vocals, the vocals are always changing. IIII is a unique and diverse black metal album, but the songs need to be more memorable for Farsot to ascend to a higher musical level.

(released April 29, 2008 on Prophecy North America)
