Fear My Thoughts - Vulcanus

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Chad Bowar, About.com

Fear My Thoughts - VolcanusCentury Media Records
The German band Fear My Thoughts has a new label (Century Media) for their fifth full-length release. They've also recruited several guest to appear on the album, including Schmier (vocals) and Mike Siffringer (guitar) from Destruction and keyboardist Kim Oelsen of Anubis Gates.

Vulcanus is a great balance of brutal metal intensity and subtle melody. Some songs are full force bone crushers with old school thrash guitars and pummeling blast beats. Others are mellower and almost progressive with a lot of melody and subtlety and atmospheric keyboards. There's even a five minute instrumental halfway through the CD that showcases the album's many different facets (except vocals of course) in one song.

Fear My Thoughts pours a lot of different influences into this CD including melodic death metal, thrash, progressive and even some black metal. The vocals also encompass many styles, from raspy death metal growls to melodic singing. Volcanus is a wide ranging and very well done CD.
