This is the North American debut release for the black metal band Furze, who have released a few albums in Europe. UTD is split into two parts of four songs each. The first section is called "Beneath The Odd-Edge Sounds To The Twilight Contract Of the Black Fascist." It is the more traditional of the two halves, with fierce fuzzy guitars and intense, powerful songs. It also features a guest appearance from Satyricon and 1349 drummer Frost.
The second half of the album is called "The Wealth of the Penetration in the Abstract Paradigmas Of Satan" and is more experimental and unusual. The vocals are random growls and screams buried deep in the mix. Albums like this are purposely low-fi, but the erratic mixing and maximum treble can get really grating.
I do give Furze credit for putting a few riffs amongst the blast beats and distortion, but the songs go on way too long. Instead of sounding edgy and unique, they devolve into muddled, self-indulgent messes.
