The Gathering - A Noise Severe

The End Records
In 2007 The Gathering singer Anneke van Giersbergen announced she was leaving the band. She formed her own group Agua De Annique that released an album last year. The Gathering will continue, but they haven't yet announced van Giersbergen's replacement.

A Noise Severe is a double live CD that was recorded on The Gathering's final South American tour. The venue was Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile. The sound quality is excellent, and you can hear plenty of crowd noise and singalongs without it being too intrusive. There's also a companion DVD that is getting a similtaneous release.

The songs on the CD are The Gathering's more rock oriented tracks, which translate really well in a live setting. They span most of the band's career, with the most tracks coming from their latest CD, 2006's Home. There are also songs from every CD going back to 1995's Mandylion. A Noise Severe is a great way to wrap up the Anneke era of The Gathering as we await to see what the next incarnation of the band will bring.

(released February 5, 2008 on The End Records)
