The downfall of a lot of very technical albums is that they sound clinical and sterile. The second release from the French band Gorod does not have that problem. They have created an album with superb musicianship and technical skill that also has really good songs.
Gorod is a death metal band who doesn't lack in the anger and brutality department, but their songs are really catchy with excellent grooves. The guitar riffs are unique and sometimes complex, and the solos show a lot of skill. The vocals are the usual death metal cookie monster growl that's buried in the mix.
The French metal scene is really improving, and you can add Gorod to the increasing list of bands from there that have recently released really good CDs.
