Hacavitz - Katun

About.com Rating threehalf out of Five

Hacavitz - KatunMoribund Cult Records
Hacavitz is half the band they used to be. After releasing their debut album Venganza last year, the drummer and bass player quit the band. Antimo Buonnano (vocals/guitar/bass) and Oscar Garcia (drums) decided to record the band's latest effort as a duo.

Katun continues the band's blackened death metal sound. The production is raw and the songs are mostly fast and brutal. Blazing guitars and battering blast beats pound you into submission. Hacavitz does add some diversity to the mix by slowing down from time to time and getting into a real groove before erupting into faster tempos.

Even though the music is death metal, the vocals are harsh, black metal rasps. The ominous and evil sounding vocals add an extra layer of darkness to an album that's already extreme. The quality of Katun is pretty similar to Venganza, and if you liked that one you will definitely dig their latest.
