Amoeba is unbelievably diverse. As a matter of fact, Hacride even teams up with the Spanish flamenco group Ojos De Brujo for the song "Zambra." What may sound bizarre on paper works extremely well in practice. The combination of metal and flamenco is actually really cool sounding.
The rest of the album isn't quite as unusual as that song, but Hacride has their distinct style. They combine technical riffs with creativity to create songs that are sometimes crushing and traditional, other times mellow and off-kilter. You'll hear influences of everyone from Meshuggah to Strapping Young Lad to Opeth. The melodic vocals are good, but the screaming vocals are the only thing that could use a little improvement. They are angry and intense but their pitch and intensity don't change much, even though the music does.
Sometimes vicious, sometimes melodic, and always interesting, Amoeba should be a breakthrough album for Hacride.
