On their latest album the German metallic hardcore band Heaven Shall Burn moves more toward the metallic and less toward the hardcore. They combine melodic death metal with metalcore and are a bit more brutal than the average metalcore band.
Heaven Shall Burn's songs have some decent riffs and a multitude of breakdowns. They also have a dark atmosphere and bursts of melody. Producer Jacob Hansen (Hatesphere) gives the CD a very crisp sound that allows that dark atmosphere to seep in over the double bass and intense guitars. There are no clean vocals here, just a combination of yells and growls. Deaf To Our Prayers is a decent metalcore album, but there aren't any really memorable or outstanding tracks, just a lot of good ones.
