It's been six years since we've heard from the French black metal band Hegemon. They have resurfaced with a new record label and are ready to unleash their third full-length CD.
Contemptus Mundi is a very well done CD. Hegemon incorporates some symphonic elements along with traditional black metal. The songs range from majestic and brooding atmospheric songs to full out evil black metal played at maximum speed and intensity. They also have periodic interludes within the songs that are mellow and acoustic, and just as you let your guard down they take off again.
The vocals are the typical black metal rasps, although they are generally understandable. Contemptus Mundi is a wide ranging black metal CD with a lot of depth and diversity. Hopefully we won't have to wait another 6 years for the next Hegemon album.
