Insect Warfare - World Extermination

Earache Records
If you're introducing someone to metal, grindcore probably isn't the best genre to start with. They'll probably run screaming for the hills. But for those with a taste for the extreme, a well-done grindcore album really hits the spot.

World Extermination is indeed a very well-done grindcore album. Insect Warfare released a bunch of EPs and splits, but this was their only full-length (originally released in 2007) before they broke up. Kudos to Earache Records for giving this overlooked CD new life.

Grindcore can get really repetitive, with ultra fast tempos and relentless blast beats. You'll hear those on World Extermination, but Insect Warfare does a nice job changing things up. Slowing down tempos, even for a few seconds, helps a lot. They also thrown in moments of thrash and other genres.

There are 20 tracks on the album, none of them over 2 minutes long, and several less than a minute in length. Insect Warfare packs a powerful punch into each one of those songs, and if you're a grind fan who missed World Extermination the first time around, don't pass up the opportunity to grab it while you can.

(released March 24, 2009 on Earache Records)
